We’ve been asked many times about running sewing classes for children and teens, so we’re delighted to offer this after school sewing club for children aged 12-16. Ideal for children who want to learn or already love sewing, this after school club is a brilliant way for children to be creative, learn a new skill, improve their hand-eye coordination and develop their motor skills whilst having fun and making something they can be proud of!
The tutor for these classes is Gillian Neath who has run workshops for both adults and children for many years as well as working in the fashion and textile industry. Gillian has a full DBS check and we are delighted she will be running these lovely new workshops. The children will be supervised at all times and for younger children the fabric will be cut for them by the tutor. Our sewing machines are all speed controlled so they can take things nice and slowly and any pressing is done by the tutor. The children will have their own desk, tools and workspace and nothing will need to be shared.
Children will learn how to cut out and sew accurately and to confidently use a sewing machine and work on their own projects to take home. Gillian can teach small applique projects, maybe to decorate a t-shirt or a bag. The older, more experienced sewers are welcome to make a garment, bringing their own fabric and pattern. We can have a chat about when you book your place. Hand sewing and machine sewing will be taught.
The club runs weekly on Mondays 4pm – 5.30pm and booking is for a block of 4 lessons. All materials are provided and the cost is £60.
We are very happy for you to leave your children whilst the class is taking place but you are also welcome to stay. You can have a coffee, tea and a biscuit in our lounge area or you could have a look around the costume rooms and try on costumes for an hour and a half if you wish!
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All materials and use of machinery is included.
6 hours (4:30pm to 6:00pm)
