About the Course
Discover the wonderful art of tapestry weaving at my studio set in the beautiful East Devon countryside. I offer 1 day courses suitable for beginners. Tapestry weaving is a traditional hand craft conducted on a wooden frame loom and used to create pictures, wall hangings, bags and cushion covers . You will learn how to warp your own loom, weave your own textile , finish and create your very own woven wall hanging . Your sampler is made by weaving the yarn in and out. You will learn lots of weaving tips and techniques when you enrol in your course.
The, ‘Love Your Loom’, One Day course, will teach you a variety of tapestry weaving techniques on a standing frame loom including: tabby, pick and pick, hatching, rya knots, soumak, shapes, colour blending, outlining. I teach both modern tapestry and traditional picture styles – the choice is entirely yours! The course is suitable for total beginners and those with some experience are also welcome.
At the end of the day you will have completed your unique woven wall hanging to take home. Yarns, frame looms and equipment will be provided for the day.
If you are travelling from afar, BnB accommodation is available on request

My one day tapestry weaving course in September was a wonderful experience. It took place in a workshop with windows all around in an orchard in the heart of the Devon countryside and there was a wonderful peace. The varied weavings on the walls and all the glorious colours of the yarns made me itch to get creating straight away.
Alana guided me in my choice of colours and textures of yarns available, showed me how to weave and all the different possibilities. She checked I'd understood and then left me to work and experiment on my own but was there if I needed any help. She told me that in weaving there's no right and wrong, which I found very liberating. I was quickly completely absorbed in the work and my imagination and creativity were in full flow.
At the end of the day I had a wall hanging that I was absolutely delighted with. To my great surprise, as it was my first attempt, I was proud enough of it to give it to friends as a wedding present the next day. I can't wait to go back and do another course!
