Have you ever wondered how to decorate leather? Fancy learning something new and exciting in a beautiful rural location with lovely home cooked food prepared by my in house chef, and you get to meet fellow enthusiasts?
Leather has long been used for practical purposes. As a flexible material it has many uses and offers an exciting surface on which to work.
This course is aimed at beginners and those with experience are also welcome.
During the day we will be creating several small products that introduce you to the main ways in which you can decorate leather, including:
The types of leather that are available.
The types of tanning and the properties of chrome tanned and vegetable tanned leather in relation to surface decoration.
Preparing the surface of the leather for decoration.
Techniques on the course include the following embossing, debossing, applique, couching, creasing, painting, dyeing, stamping & working with foil.
Finishing and sealing your leather.
We will look at examples of digital printing and pyrography.
Adding hardware including keyrings, poppers and rivets.
You will receive a set of course notes to accompany the day.
There will be a choice of designs available on the day. The materials are included in the course fee. Elizabeth will be in touch after purchase to ask a few questions to help her ensure she tailors the day to cover your questions and what you would like to learn.
By the end of the day you will leave with confidence to decorate leather and knowing how you can apply your new knowledge to your own designs in the future.
You will need to have a few breaks during the day and to stand up and move about. The timing and length of the breaks can be tweaked so we can carry on stitching.
The timings of the day:
9.15am Arrival, introductions and refreshments
9.30am Class starts - First session
11am Coffee break tea and homemade freshly roasted coffee homemade truffles with chocolates (we have to keep your energy levels up).
11.15am Second session
1pm Lunch - buffet choice of smoked salmon & hams/charcuterie and salads (no iceberg in sight)
1.30pm Third session
3.30pm Afternoon tea with brownies and cookies
3.45pm Fourth and final session of the day and finishing
5pm Finish and farewell

Do you need to bring anything?
Just bring yourself.
Wear old clothes and proper shoes that cover your toes as we will be working with tools.
Classes will be following COVID guidance and track and trace. In the event that we have a full lockdown a full refund will be provided.
