About the Course
Tuesday night course in Basic Cabinet Making taught by John Cross. This course will introduce you to the use and maintenance of a range of cabinetmaking tools and joinery techniques.
Teaching starts with a session about the properties of solid timber and man-made boards, and the care and maintenance of hand tools, and then progresses through measuring and marking, using hand tools for cutting and shaping, and the creation of the range of woodworking joints. Once these simple joints have been mastered students will progress to the course project. The project is a small bookcase or spice rack with dovetailed joints and through tenons. The project offers the opportunity to develop and refine students’ woodworking skills, and teaches some useful techniques that can then be applied to other furniture and DIY projects.
The course is suitable for all skills levels. 6.30pm to 9.30pm. There is a week’s break for half-term on this course.
