There will be an introduction to the history, culture and development of stumpwork embroidery, which originated from the Stuart period. This is suitable for beginners who have previous experience and knowledge of basic hand embroidery and want to improve their skills further. Working outside of the class between each session is required to finish your piece.
Rebecca has always been fascinated by the intricate details in life, particularly in art, historic costumes and textiles.
After studying (ND) Textiles and (BA Hons) Costume Interpretation, she realised that, although she loved learning the history behind period costumes and textile techniques, her favourite part of creating the costumes was the surface embellishment: primarily lacemaking, embroidery and beading.
After teaching in London for several years, she returned to Somerset to pursue what she is most passionate about - classes combining textile techniques with the history and culture behind them.
Rebecca hopes to help keep these alive for the next generation.
