About the Course
This workshop focus on the core techniques that you need to create jewellery. This includes soldering, piercing, texturing and finishing. You will also learn how to create your own project based on stone setting. You will come away with various pieces including a stone set ring.
Week One: Fee will give a demonstration on texturing, using hammers, drilling and finishing techniques. Students will learn how to cut metal and start to plan a piercing project which will continue throughout the 5 week course.
Week Two: Students will learn to use the Jewellers pliers for bending, use the gas torch and practice the art of silver soldiering. You will have the opportunity to make a wire ring.
Week Three: Fee will demonstrate how to make a band ring and texturing using punches. You will learn how to correctly size a ring and make a band style ring. (Silver can be purchased for an additional £5)
Week Four: Stone setting! Fee will demonstrate how to create a cabochon stone setting, you can set with a stone or beach glass.
Week Five: Students will finish of their projects with the help of Fee, she will also be demonstrating correct ways to finish your Jewellery.
It is run by Fiona Cocks BA(Hons) who is has been teaching classes for over 10 years. She is enthusiastic and fun. The 2.5 hour sessions takes place in the workshops of Bigbury Mint, which is in Ermington, near Ivybridge, in the heart of the South Hams area of Devon.
Courses run on Thurdays evenings. We can take group-bookings at other times as well, and these can be tailored to your needs.

What's included in the price?
All tools and materials are provided. Turn up ready for a 6pm start on Thursday evenings with clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and shoes suitable for a workshop (not flip-flops or sandals). parking is available right outside.
