About the Course

This 3 day Stone Sculpture workshop with Simon Keeley- a perfect slice of fresh air and 'downtime' in which to lose oneself learning from this 'master' of stone carving. Starting late afternoon - anytime from from 4.30pm - latest 7 to 9pm pm with Simon leading you through the process of drawing and then creating a 'maquette' (a clay model) of your chosen subject.

On the first morning Simon will demonstrate the stone carving process. Over those 3 days working under his watchful eye, you will be guided through the world of the Stone carver working in three dimensions, sculpting your design in stone. The course will take place in an unheated space under cover or in an old barn. You will keep warm as you will generate plenty of heat. In recent years students have opted to work outside under cover or in sunshine.

Taking place outside in the Cycle Cafe garden, the course provides both absorption and relaxation - a perfect slice of fresh air 'downtime' in which to lose oneself. Ideal for anyone with enthusiasm and a little patience...Use of tools and etc included. Stone will be charged extra depending on choice. We will be working under cover in the black smithing area well protected from wind or rain , or possibly in an old barn depending on availability.

Spaces are limited- please or email asap or call to book. Your days will include a lovely Aga lunch each day lunch and refreshments.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Welcome drinks : fresh coffee & home made biscuits, a lovely 2 course Aga lunch served in our farmhouse kitchen or outside in the Greystoke Cycle Cafe Tea Garden as soon as it's warm enough. To finish off the day, a freshly made Cream Tea (including Aga-baked scones, cream and jam).

Our days are considered special treats; many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.

We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 from our friendly family run Cycle Cafe Tea Garden on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.

Use of all equipment - there will be an additional materials charge depending on stone used.

Amazing what you can achieve in a day with a good tutor and convivial surroundings. Completely from scratch, we managed to make a block pattern, print and make up a lampshade, and have some printed material to play with at home too. Brilliant day to get absorbed into a new craft and not have to worry about anything else. Thanks Georgia & Annie : )
