A hands-on sculpture workshop
We begin with a short introduction to each other, to Sebastian’s approach and to the tools, with a demonstration of stone carving.
Then it’s time to dive in and get into three dimensions using a practice block of stone. After the morning coffee break, you will start working on your own block of stone. It’s ideal if you come with a fairly simple idea of what you might want to create: what shape, whether abstract, geometrical or taken from life. A figure, face, an animal, bird, or fish; an abstract form or a sphere or bowl; perhaps relief or a pattern.
After lunch, you will get into the rhythm of stone carving. Here, you will begin to learn how to interact with the medium of stone in order to work together with it and the tools provided. Alongside, you will experience the satisfaction of being creative and the creative process.
On the second day, you will continue stone carving with supervision to realise the three dimensional subject in stone. Get into the flow, enjoy the excitement of seeing the imagined form take shape.
The aim is to finish your sculpture by the end of the course. With Sebastian’s guidance, this should be achievable. The course ends with appreciating our work and reflecting on our experiences.
