About the Course
Make your own small shoulder bag from leather with no stitching. Using only rivets and lacing techniques this is a great introduction to leatherwork. You will be able to choose from a selection of Italian vegetable tanned leather and to emboss it with your name or other words to personalise it. The bags are small shoulder style bags, made from hard vegetable tanned leather and are unlined. You can also make stitchless small leathergoods - choose from a simple purse a card holder, a glasses case, a travel pouch, a phone case or a tablet case.
You will learn how to
* cut leather from a pattern using a scalpel
* hole punch leather
* leather lacing techniques
* set rivets and other fastenings
* emboss leather to personalise it with your name or initials
* use a variety of traditional leatherwork tools
Esther Keen has been a leatherworker for over 10 years and studied bag design and construction at the London College of Fashion before going on to work in the industry as a leatherworker and sample maker.
Each workshop has been thoughtfully designed to enable leathercraft beginners and people who have a little experience with leather and sewing to hand make beautiful, functional leather bags, belts and shoes in just a few hours using simple techniques, and a few key leatherwork tools. I want to give people the skills and knowledge so that they can recreate what they've learnt at home.
Carefully sourced full grain vegetable tanned leather means that each piece handmade in a Leather Needle Thread workshop will be full of integrity and long lasting.

What a great way to spend a morning with friends. Good designs to choose from and wide variety of coloured leathers. It was a well managed course with all of us completing our bags on time (with embossing too!) - and there was time for tea and delicious cake.

Hands down, by far, the BEST class I have been too!! Esther is amazingly talented and a brilliant teacher - class is well structured, clearly explained and fun! There are different bag designs and a beautiful range of leathers to choose from, which means everyone can make a bag which is unique to them. Lovely atmosphere - very friendly and relaxed. Highly recommended! Still smitten with my new bag! Thank you Esther

Really excellent course. You are given a choice of bag design and colour and then you get on with making them in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Esther gives clear and simple instructions and lots of one-to-one attention. It felt good for the soul to be making something with my hands and now I have a lovely bag that has already received compliments (just on my way home from the workshop!). I highly recommend it!

Absolutely brilliant course! Esther helped throughout the morning but also let us get stuck in and do our own thing. Really loved getting creative and properly using my hands to make something to be proud of. Also, excellent tea and cake at the venue we were at which was provided (and made a welcome break from mallet work!).
Can't stop looking at my lovely little bag, thank you again.
