Description:

This course can be done online or one to one at my workshop. Tools provided at my workshop or I can advise you where to buy your own.

Sessions can be booked in 4 and 8 hour blocks but can then be broken down into bite sized two hour sessions.
This helps with dealing with specific issues, time to practice and a revisit in the next session before progressing.
Whilst you can have whichever suits you best, this structure has proved the most successful so far.

The horn craft, buffalo, crook making course is run over two days
9.30 until 4.30

You will learn the methods of bending buffalo horn using dry heat and learning to bend the horn around a jig which is a preformed shape of a crook. You will also be taught how to polish, sand, rasp. Also how to turn the horn out for nose out or turn the horn in, nose in, ie market stick.

Day 1 - cutting the horn, measure, assemble the tools needed, heating the horn and filing/rasping

Day 2 - preparing the shank, making a traditional peg joint, attaching the crook handle to the shank, polishing

This class is taught on a one to one basis for over 18s only. Cost £125.00 per day. If you have already done stickmaking previously it can be done as a one day course for actually shaping the crook horn.

-

Enjoyed a brilliant day with Stuart. Having a basic knowledge of stickmaking I had one to one tuition to learn advanced techniques finishing shanks with wooden, buffalo and ramshorn handles. He is a very patient tutor and eager to impart his knowledge. Highly recommended.
