About the Course

STAINED GLASS PANEL MAKING 2 day course at various venues in the South West, in Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Come and try your hand at this traditional craft—all materials and tools provided; no experience needed; small groups ensure personal attention; everyone will leave with a finished panel.
Stained Glass is an ancient art of using colour and light to create atmosphere and to depict images and stories. Traditionally, stained glass windows tend to be associated with cathedrals, churches and country houses, but these days stained glass is also often used in homes for decoration.

This course will enable you to create your own stained glass panel using the traditional method of combining coloured glass with lead. The panel you make will be suitable to either build into a window or frame as a hanging panel.

The course involves working with coloured, clear and textured glass; learning how to handle and cut glass safely and to 'lead up' a panel. All glass, tools and equipment will be provided for use on the course.

No experience is needed. This is an informal workshop with a small number of participants and there will be demonstrations and practical help throughout. If you have some experience of making stained glass you can use this course as an opportunity to improve your skills.

The tutor Jackie Hunt is a professional stained glass artist. She has a design training as well as specific training in architectural glass and has taught workshops and evening classes for more than ten years in Dorset, Yorkshire and Cumbria. I had never done anything like this before, and very little that was practical so it was a challenge.... but over two days we designed our own patterns, cut the glass, stretched the lead and leaded up the cut glass, and soldered it into an a4 size panel.

Ok, so I made it more complicated than is sensible.... and ok so it isnt perfect.. but actually that is the point. It is ALL mine! .... and i can add panels on at the side.

Lots of good experienced help, and I did it at Dillington which was a great location, ( lunches to die for....) and at the end I have a lead panel that gleams in the window :-)

If you have ever even thought of it... do it!
