About the Course

During the workshop I will show you how to cut stained glass using both traditional cutters and mosaic nippers producing different effects for different projects and how to lay the 'tessera' to build simple or complicated designs which can then be placed on your 'float' glass to create beautiful, bright home or garden mosaics.
The coloured glass will be adhered to a mirror float producing stunning colour quality and, due to its reflective surface, not only keeping it bright but subtly changing the hues according to the ambient light.
I will teach you how to source your materials, both new and recycled, and make your work waterproof so suitable for year long garden display, no matter the weather. We will also cover how to avoid the pitfalls that will cause problems later on. This is an unusual style of mosaic which you can apply to a selection of surfaces to create lamps, vases, decanters, tiles, balls, water features, panels, windows and mirrors so your work will not only be unique, but hopefully, the envy of all your friends.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

I was given a one day course as a Christmas present which I have just attended. I was apprehensive as I have never worked with glass before. Sue was brilliant, passing on all the techniques needed to be able to produce a piece of work we would be proud to take home and show off. She also gave us some of her tricks of the trade she has developed over the years and lists of suppliers where we can buy products to continue our new art at home. A most enjoyable day and well worth recommending.

I attended a one day glass mosaic course last week. My husband bought this for me as a birthday present and he found Sue extremely helpful and friendly on the phone . Sue is very welcoming and I felt at ease immediately. The studio has a wonderful setting and is a truly inspiring place. Sue is very talented and professional and I really learned a lot and came away full of enthusiasm for thus very rewarding craft. I was extremely pleased with the mosaic that I produced and came away with lots of information about where to obtain materials , techniques etc so that I could do more at home. We were provided with drinks and biscuits throughout the day and all the materials. It was really good value, fun and I couldn't have hoped for more ! I can thoroughly recommend this course and I am keen to attend more. A big thank you to Sue.

I enjoyed every moment of my two day course with Sue Smith. The fact that I came away with a skill at a level I never dreamt possible was an added bonus. Several months on I spend a lot of my spare time creating mosaic mirrors and tiles; I can't wait for retirement when I will spend a lot more time on this wonderful hobby.
Sue is quite inspirational and the gorgeous setting of her studio makes the whole experience memorable. I would recommend Sue's courses to anyone.

Located in her own workshop set in stunning countryside, the lovely Sue takes you through the techniques necessary to cut glass and design and make your own mosaic. A thoroughly relaxing, friendly course with as much support given as you need. Am planning to rebook so would recommend.
