About the Course

There is one available space remaining in this fantastic workshop! Book now to secure your place.

Learn how to select wood, cleave, use an axe and hook knife, safe knife grips and cuts, tool selection, design and finishing. Go home with a spoon of your very own making.

Weather permitting, we will be working outside for much of the day - but we can retreat to my studio with wood stove and kettle if necessary. Bull Mill Arts is an artists' community established by Lord Bath on the Longleat Estate on the banks of the beautiful Wylye Valley surrounded by water meadows and woodland.

Our visiting tutor is Jill Swan, a trained sculptor of immense talent, inventiveness and good humour. She usually works in her forest in Kent, 27 acres of deciduous woodland predominantly oak, with beech, chestnut, hornbeam, birch, holly, rowan, alder, whitebeam and hazel, managed for amenity, wildlife and sustainability.

Wear old clothes, dress weather appropriate with sturdy footwear to walk in the forest.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
