About the Course

This one day intensive workshop is for students who have already taken a beginner jewellery or metalsmithing class and who find soldering a stumbling block in their path to realising their designs.
This class focuses on the fundamentals of soldering. You will work with wire and sheet to learn and practise the principles of joining metal using an open flame. It includes making a flat-sided or domed hollow bead.
It is a very small friendly workshop with a maximum of 3 benches so you will get lots of individual attention. There will be plenty of time for figuring out future project sequences and troubleshooting previous ones.

You will begin using copper and by following demonstrations you will learn about:
• different solders, fluxes and types of gas
• pick, pallion, stick, sweat and wire soldering
• the different types of solders, fluxes and gases
• annealing and pickling
• how to utilise tension, binding wire and holding tools
• multiple joints

You will go home with your samples. You will have gained confidence and understanding in your new skills that you can apply to your own designs.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

All project materials are included. If you wish to purchase extra sheet and wire it is for sale at cost price on the day.
Tea, coffee and biscuits available at all times.
