About the Course
Learn a range of jewellery making techniques on this fun one day workshop at Studio Budgie Galore, a brand new workshop based at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet in Sheffield and take home at least one piece made in silver at the end of the day. This one day course is suitable for beginners as well as students with previous experience of jewellery making. You will be introduced to the workshop, all the tools and equipment and health and safety.
Choose from a Silver Jewellery Day where you will learn how to texture, emboss, hammer, stamp, saw pierce, file, form and polish to make a silver pendant and/or earrings or A Silver Ring in a Day where you learn how to measure, form, solder, texture, file and polish to make a silver ring.
After a morning experimenting with a range of techniques you will decide on a design to make in the afternoon - making a beautiful finished piece of silver jewellery to take home with you. If you are on a specific workshop such as a silver ring in a day we will discuss your design ideas and the type of ring you would like to make in the afternoon. Other areas that are discussed during the workshop include jewellery findings and how to finish off your pieces of work.
Jules is a fully qualified teacher and designer with more than 18 years teaching experience.

Jules was very knowledgeable, friendly and patient. I attended a 1 day course on my own and instantly felt at ease, even though everyone else was there in pairs! Would definitely recommend and am now contemplating attending a weekly course. Big thanks to Jules xxx

I thoroughly enjoyed my day spent making a silver ring. Jules was a great teacher, very patient and helpful and she has some really creative ideas if you need inspiration. I loved the course and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone, whatever their ability or level of experience.

Three of us went along to the course not quite knowing what to expect and all of us were a little nervous. There was no need to be - we had a splendid time.
Jules was so patient and helpful and explained everything so well - anyone would 'get' it. The whole thing was very relaxed and the bigger group we were part of were lovely.
It was amazing how - after the explanations of the different possible techniques - everyone just dived in and had a go.
I was delighted with my new earrings and would thoroughly recommend this to anyone.
Julie Allison - - #13270
Really enjoyed the day, got to play with lots of different techniques and made something lovely to take away at the end!
Chad Gowler - - #13251
Jules is a great teacher, very patient and encouraging. The day was well planned in terms of timings and refreshments and the class size was nice and small. I was really pleased with with the stacking rings I made as i’d never done any jewellery making before, but had always loved D&T at school. Would now love to go onto the weekly lessons to develop my skill!
Laura Scholey - - #13243
This was an excellent course. Jules was lovely - patient and encouraging - and made sure we were all refreshed and fed to keep us going. It was really interesting to see the different techniques and be able to test and "play" before deciding what we were going to do. Added to this we came away with earrings and all the bits and bobs we had been practicing on as well. Brilliant.
Jane Wharmby - - #13193
The course was interesting and absorbing and I learned some new skills and gained a lovely pair of silver earrings by the end of the morning. Would really recommend and would love to do another course
Karen Godhard - - #13160
Had a fab day, very hands on, company was lovely and very relaxed. Jules was the perfect host and very knowledgable (and patient).
Sally Ramsell - - #13152
I did the silver earrings half day course. We were shown lots of techniques and got to practice on aluminium before deciding on what silver earrings to make. Felt really relaxed and was really pleased with my earrings. Can't believe we got through so much in a morning without feeling rushed! Would definitely recommend this as a treat or gift and an intro to jewellery making.

Oh for more Sundays like this! Jules was friendly, welcoming, extremely knowledgeable, creative and a patient teacher. The workshop is extremely well equipped and comfortable. We started with a practice ring and got used to techniques and tools, then after lunch we started our final silver rings. It was fun, fiddly and fabulously satisfying. I am so proud of the finished result and am looking for excuses to go back and make something else. I’m hoping to bring my 13yo son next time. Thank you so much Budgie Galore!
Emma Packer - - #13150
Very enjoyable day learning basic jewellery techniques and even ended up with a worthwhile ring.
Jeremy Hewitt - - #13149
I got a place on the Silver Jewellery making workshop for Christmas. It was a great present! I had a lovely time on the course. We learned several different techniques and had plenty of time and materials to practice with before we did our final pieces in silver. Everyone made something special and individual that they were proud of and I'm wearing the pendant I made today! Highly recommended.

I attended Making a Ring in a day and had the most brilliant day. I had no idea that I would leave with a ring to be proud of, that has since had many compliments. The group of people on the day were all lovely and Jules is the most patient, informative and helpful teacher. I left feeling proud of all that I had learnt and keen to attend more of the workshops/courses.
Jen Bramwell - - #13136
I had a lovely day making rings with Julie, she made sure we understood all the processes we were using, gave plenty of time for each stage and ensured we ended the day with a ring we were proud to have made.
Jill Nichols - - #13132
Great time making a Ring in a Day. Amazed how much I achieved in one day and very happy with the finished result. Looking forward to making something else in the future. Great tuition, venue and workshop. An enjoyable and satisfying way to spend a day. Thanks Jules!

I had a wonderful day with Jules on the Silver Jewellery making day recently, the day was very well structured and the tuition was brilliant. I made a beautiful necklace using loads of the skills we were taught and I am looking forward to coming back for the 8 week course in April.

Whether you've made jewellery for years or are looking for an opportunity to try it for the first time, Jules will make you feel welcome and capable. She's a really knowledgeable tutor and has a great way of encouraging and developing ideas with you, helping you to understand the best way forward with a particular project, and offering different options for creating your own unique pieces of work. I love being at the studio and would go much more often if I could. It's very well-equipped and the people who go to the classes are always so friendly and eager to learn / share ideas. If you're thinking of trying out Budgie Galore I'd really recommend giving it a go!

I have really enjoyed all the classes I have done and now have lots of beautiful jewellery to wear.
Jules is a great tutor and is very patient and encouraging. She helps everyone to design their own pieces and provides just the right guidance to ensure the projects are a success.

Jules is a fantastic tutor and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this class to anyone. I had no experience in jewellery making but have already made some earrings and a beautiful silver and amethyst ring (I supplied my own gemstone for my particular preference). The workshop is well stocked with lots of equipment, bright and airy and in a lovely setting. I particularly enjoy learning to solder and there are lots of different techniques to learn.
Having suffered with severe anxiety, Jules encouraged me to join, after a few false starts on my part, and I am so glad that she did. She is friendly, warm and patient and the people in the group are lovely. I go home with a great sense of achievement and my mood has lifted considerably. For anyone that practices mindfulness, this class gives you an opportunity to make a piece that is meaningful to you and you focus on the here and now. Perfect practice! Plus you go home with something really nice.
I am definitely signing up for the next workshop.
Lisa - - #6309
The class is so very relaxed and comfortable, it makes me want to learn more and more it is so very interesting and Julie is so encouraging with every aspect of jewellery making. You are made to feel a worthwhile member of the class and are made to feel that you can attempt any project & adequately succeeding.
Sheila Saxelby - - #6308
A brilliant course. I had some previous experience but the people in my group didn't. Jules gave us all loads of her time and helped everyone make individual pieces. She showed us loads of different techniques - a fantastic full day. Can't wait to sign up for more. Thanks
Gill - - #4934
A very full day, with so much information and equipment provided. I didn't think one could learn so much in one session, and take home some very respectable pieces of work.
Jill Lauriston - - #4200
