About the Course
Learn to make your own beautiful fine silver jewellery from Art clay silver, at my studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. No previous experience is necessary!
Silver clay when fired, which can be done using an inexpensive torch at home, results in 99.9% fine silver pieces. By the end of my course you will have some beautiful jewellery to take home.
Silver Clay has recently been featured on BBC1 Countryfile Winter Special and BBC4 Make! Craft Britain
I have been making jewellery from metal clay for a few years now. I completed a year long course at the London Jewellery School in September 2015 resulting in a Diploma in Creative Jewellery which included learning many techniques using silver clay. I also learnt other skills including fused glass, resin, perspex, enamelling and silversmithing.
I also attended an intensive 3 day course with Tracey Spurgin at Craftworx in Beverley, which enabled me to demonstrate different skills and techniques in working with silver clay. This resulted in me achieving Art Clay Silver Level 1 Diploma (ACWUK) in April 2016, which qualifies me to teach basic silver clay classes.
I will teach you the following:
Rolling & cutting
Pre fire finishing
Post fire finishing
Oxidising to create 'antiquing'
I offer one-to-one workshops.
Please contact me for details of available dates of workshop.

For cancellations of two weeks or less I am unable to offer a refund but a date change may be considered. For cancellations within 48 hours of workshop no alternative date can be offered.
In the unlikely event that I have to cancel a course at short notice you will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.

Really enjoyed the silver clay workshop. Claire was really knowledgeable and helpful and I’m now really enthusiastic about giving it a go on my own! Can’t wait to get started in the meantime I’m really enjoying wearing the pieces that I made during the workshop.
Janette Brown - - #18890
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:Thanks Janette you made some lovely pieces of jewellery!
My mum and I had a lovely morning learning about silver clay and were thrilled with the pieces we made. Claire was very welcoming and we found the class relaxing, informative and really good fun. Something a bit different that I’d booked as a Birthday treat for my mum but definitely something we’ll carry on now we’ve got the basics! Thank you Claire 😄
Becky Mear - - #17663

A fantastic experience, my daughter and I learned so much from Claire today.
Claire is a very patient and knowlegable teacher and taught us so much.
Claire made us feel so welcome in her home and Daisy dog was gorgeous. Will certainly be back to hone our new skills further.
Su Smith - - #16803
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:It was a pleasure to teach Su & Emily and I look forward to seeing what pieces of silver jewellery they make in the future. Daisy enjoyed all the fuss too!
I contacted Claire via CraftCourses.com after seeing a post for her course on Instagram, as a couture milliner I wanted to explore the relevance that this interesting craft has for my work. We very quickly arranged a 1:1 session - when setting up a mutually convenient date I found Claire very easy and flexible to communicate with.
On arrival Claire greeted me warmly, and armed with a cup of tea, seated in her studio we started with the technical explanation of the processes involved in silver clay jewellery. It’s quite an involved process, but Claire is clearly very passionate about her craft, and guided me through the process gently, ensuring I understood everything. Then it was time for the hands on experience, and some three hours later I had three exquisite completed pieces, all finished using slightly different techniques.
Once back at home I decided that one of the techniques I had used would enhance further the main piece in my three piece silver clay collection. I contacted Claire again and she offered to finish off my dragonfly for me with the specific polishing technique I had fallen in love with. Imagine my delight yesterday on opening the package and viewed the finished piece which she had kindly worked upon further for me. This dedication confirms again that Claire is very committted to both her craft and her students, and I can only sing her praises. My beautiful silver clay butterfly is now destined to grace one of my new Autumn Collection hats, so I will be looking forward to posting about this on Instagram with a tag for Claire & CraftCourses.com of course!
Margaret Woodliff - - #16602
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:It was lovely helping Margaret create a beautiful piece for one of her hats and she also made further pieces of jewellery which also turned out really well. It was so interesting learning about her millinery work and I really look forward to seeing it on display on her finished hat!
Claire’s class was just great, I enjoyed every minute of it!! Claire made me feel comfortable and relaxed as soon as I got there. She made the instructions simple and straight forward, demonstrating each part of the process and suggesting slightly different methods which might be useful. Claire had lots and lots examples of finished and try-out pieces which were really lovely and gave me loads of ideas for my own stuff! I learnt a lot, met two lovely people, Claire and Trish, had cakes and coffee and left with some beautiful jewellery made by me! Thanks Claire!
Sue Browne - - #16548

I was not expecting to have one to one learning, so this was agreat bonus
as well as the laid back atmosphere and easy to follow instructions from Claire plus the excellent value for money I could not wish for better. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Ann Davison - - #16448
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:It was lovely to meet you Ann the pieces you made were lovely especially the star pendant! Thank you for booking the workshop!
Lovely relaxed afternoon, I would never have had the courage to try this on my own but Claire was confident and reassuring. I arrived with a rather over ambitious idea in my head and Claire worked with me to produce a lovely unique piece that I will really treasure, even allowing the class to massively overrun so that my piece could be finished in the kiln. Do give this a try, you won't be disappointed.
Diane Cooke - - #15581
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:It was lovely to meet you Diane and I am so glad we were able to achieve all that we did and that you went away with the lovely piece you made! Thanks again!
I went along with my partner for this course and we had a great time.
Claire and Daisy gave us a lovely welcome and the session was relaxed and informative.
We were very happy with our pieces and Claire was a great teacher. We had tea cakes and laughter, mixed with learning about working with silver clay.
I would recommend Claire's course to anyone.
Jan Longworth - - #15556
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:You both made some lovely pieces and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
I have just left Claire's house after a brilliant afternoon learning all about silver clay, I made a pendant necklace in a heart shape and textured and two other pieces to add to further lessons. Claire is very welcoming, friendly and can translate her enthusiasm to you so you come away wishing you could have stayed longer and made more.
Thank you Claire
Pam Wilson - - #15286
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:Thank you so much Pam I had a great afternoon showing you all about the basics of silver clay. You made some lovely pieces!
I had a very interesting and really informative afternoon thanks to Claire. I was very lucky to have a one to one lesson (not including Daisy!) and learned a lot from an excellent teacher, and it was amazing to see the transformation from a little piece of clay to heart pendant and letter pendant. I will certainly be making use of the information sheets provided by Claire to try using silver clay at home. I would highly recommend this course, and Claire to anyone interested in silver jewellery making.
Michael Moore - - #15164
Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:Many thanks for your comments Michael it was lovely to meet you. You made some great pieces of jewellery!
Claire was lovely and so informative for it being a beginners class I felt like I gained much more in depth knowledge than I thought I was going to get. Claire went through the process in a methodical easy informative way and I instantly felt at ease. She had lots of pieces to show different techniques to try yourself and a wealth of knowledge to go with this. She supplied me with enough sanding/polishing papers to get my pendants looking lovely at home. She also supplied me with some paper copies of all the information we had discussed and where I could purchase supplies.
I would recommend Claire’s classes to any of my friends and family. X

Response from ToDot Handcrafted Goods Limited:Thank you Claire it was a great morning and nice to meet you!
I booked the silver clay course with Claire and she offered me a one to one session and was very quick and prompt about this. The course itself was brilliant. I learnt everything I needed to know to start this hobby at home and Claire went above and beyond to get me the information necessary to do this. She gave me a pack with all the info I needed and even sent follow up emails with more info. She is very attentive and helped me make some amazing pieces. I would definitely recommend her to anyone 👌🏼

My friend and I were interested in doing this course, but we have limited availability owing to work (and other) commitments. Claire was very accommodating and offered a course for just the two of us. We were both totally new to silver clay work, and found the course interesting - it was hands-on and we managed to come away with pieces that we had made and more importantly, that we could actually use. Claire was very friendly, and we enjoyed meeting her dog Daisy, who made us very welcome too!
Claire had a lot of equipment for us to use and gave us lots of tips in case we wanted to try using silver clay at home, including written information for us to take away.
Deborah Oxberry - - #12581
As Claire didn't have a course coming up she offered me a one to one class - an added bonus.
Claire was very warm and welcoming. She was able to explain the silver clay process clearly and it was very helpful to have my many questions answered so well. She even gave me a lot of written information and useful contacts to take home for future use.
I had a really enjoyable afternoon and have some new earrings too.
