Duration: 1 day
at Cowshed Creative (Kentmere Farm Pods and Creative Courses)
About the Course
Shibori is the wonderful Japanese art of indigo resist dyeing. In this hands-on workshop you will learn the basics of Shibori inspired folding, binding, clamping and stitching techniques. Dipped in indigo, you will create your own stunning patterns on fabric that you can use to make your own unique summer cushion covers.
The dye process is simple yet exciting and you’ll be amazed at the range of patterns that are unfolded and revealed. Experiment with different techniques on small fabric samples, then work on larger pieces of fabric that can be stitched together to create cushions.
No prior experience needed. If you want to try some of the stitching techniques some knowledge of sewing would be useful but not essential.
Textile artist Kate Reid trained at Central School of Art in London in textile design, which led to work as a freelance knitwear designer and textile specialist. She now runs her own successful costume hire company, designing and making bespoke costumes for both theatre productions and film. Kate is an inspiring teacher with loads of experience.
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
