Sewing for the petrified! Clare aims to make you feel more comfortable using the sewing machine and teach you the skills to go on to sew more projects of your own.
When Clare first got her sewing machine, she was terrified of using it, had noone to show her and so it stayed in the box, gathering dust. Finally she found a (rare) beginners course and learned how to use the sewing machine. She now runs her own handmade bags business, but remains passionate about helping others to find their creative stitches and overcome the sewing machine fear!
This beginners workshop includes introducing you to the sewing machine, threading the machine, adjusting tension, selecting stitches and fabric.
After the introduction you will start to work on the workshop project. You may learn techniques such as sewing a zip, applique, applying bias binding, lining a bag, adding pockets...
Workshop sizes tend to be small to provide individual attention. Workshop projects vary from time to time but previous workshops have been Beginners Bunting, Zipped makeup bags, children's tote bags.
What's included in the price?
Workshops include tea/coffee & biscuits (sometime cake or something more festive!). Use of sewing machines and materials are included in the price. I appreciate that you may have a particular fabric in mind and you are welcome to bring it.
For Sewing surgeries you may bring your own sewing machine to learn how to thread it etc, or use one of mine. As these are shorter sessions no refreshments are provided.
