About the Course
Recycle My Fashion - Tutor Catherine Crowther
Have you got a wardrobe full of out dated, wrong sized, shopping mistakes or just worn out items of clothing or fabric?
Bring them along and learn the basics of using both a sewing machine and sewing by hand to create a useable item. Your project might include re-using fabric and clothes to make new items such as bags, aprons, cushions, working on alterations and adaptations to clothes in your wardrobe so they can be reused rather than disposed of, or trying out new ideas for recycling fabric.
Based on the ideas of the Ministry of Information in 1943 publications and campaigns encouraging people to make new clothes from old ones and from all other household linen, and even underwear out of parachutes.
You will need to bring: A sewing machine with thread (if you don’t have one there are 3 available to borrow, please check availability of these when booking), a basic sewing kit including sharp scissors, clothes or fabric to recycle, fabric and trims to embellish. If you have any ideas of what you would like to make then please bring some pictures along, otherwise the tutor will help you with ideas.
Acton Scott Historic Working Farm is an outdoor site. Most areas are wheelchair accessible, but please be aware that the farm yard is cobbled and the ground often uneven.
