Evening beginners sewing skills for dressmaking at ‘Stitchingtime’



A 6 week in-person sewing machine skills course for beginners and improvers to learn sewing and shaping techniques using pattern terminology to prepare you for making clothes with commercial patterns.

This is a skills course in which you will produce samples of all the skills you will need to progress to the next stage of making clothes.

Bring your sewing machine and learn more about how it can work for you
•If it’s a basic machine you will learn to get the most from it by adding extra adjustable feet and sewing aids.
•If it’s an all singing and dancing machine you’ll learn what all it’s bells and whistles do

You will learn or improve your:
•straight, curved and angled seams
•single and double pointed darts
•gathers, frills and flounces
•zips (standard, invisible & exposed)
•sleeves (set-in and puffed)
•facings and under-stitching
•topstitching and edge-stitching

Complete beginners will work on cottons and stretch fabrics
Improvers will be encouraged to try more difficult fabrics such as silkies and chiffons

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

•6 lessons of 2.5 hours of tuition in a small group each week.
•All fabric and haberdashery will be provided to make your samples
•free tea, coffee and biscuits

There will be a small pop-up shop at eBay prices where you can purchase other tools and equipment you see being used by your tutor
