About the Course
Push your sculptural practice forward by developing individual projects in a supportive atmosphere at the London Sculpture Workshop. Individual tutorials and input from an experienced sculptor and teacher plus technician support throughout. Held at London Sculpture Workshop. Pop up exhibition.
This exciting joint venture between London Sculpture Workshop and Morley college offers a 6 week sculpture workshop residency opportunity based in the well resourced & equipped London Sculpture Workshop at Thames side studios by the Thames barrier SE18. With facilities available for welding, construction and casting, artists can work independently developing individual sculptural projects with access to studio equipment and technician support throughout. You will receive guidance on your project during the first session from a visiting artist, Victoria Rance, with repeat visits for two sessions to help you develop and critique your project. At the end of the academic year there will be an exhibition in the studio for all participants of completed work. Studio materials will be charged for separately once use over small included materials fee.
By the end of the course you will be able to
Work independently developing individual sculptural projects, knowledge and skills through peer mentoring and professional feedback
Learn and practice good studio Health and safety with various processes, machinery and tools
Explore and practice different construction techniques with various materials
Explore and practice some welding and metal fabricating techniques
Explore and practice some mould making and casting techniques
Class format and activities
Work independently developing individual sculptural projects, knowledge and skills through peer mentoring and professional feedback. There will be demonstrations of techniques and inductions of all studio machinery. Technician and Health and Safety guidance support throughout. Tutorials from tutor/practicing artist Victoria Rance. Feedback from the tutor and technical support in a constructive and supportive environment. Pop- up exhibition set up in studio at end of Summer Term 3.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
Some sculpture making experience in either Morley College sculpture courses, London Sculpture Workshop LSW courses, recent graduate or practicing artist wanting to develop sculpture skills and have some peer mentoring and professional feedback.
What you need to know before you enrol
This course is held offsite at London Sculpture Workshop LSW at Thames side studios (formerly Second Floor Studio & Arts) by the Thames barrier SE18: This is a sculpture workshop environment so some noisy and messy processes involved. The technical support and tutors will guide you in working safely with all materials and processes.
What you will need for your class
Overalls, steel toe capped boots or strong covered shoes, sketch books, ideas to start your projects.
Health & Safety personal protection equipment for various machinery processes are supplied
