Our screenprinting course is running in Allerthorpe near Pocklington/York, East Riding of Yorkshire.
An exciting 7 week course that offers you the opportunity to create your own screen-printed fabrics. Session run by an experienced textile designer and teacher in a friendly and supportive environment.
Within the course you will learn the process of screen-printing in full. We begin by preparing artwork for the screen, either using your own photographs or drawings. These images are transferred to a screen using a light-sensitive emulsion to give outstanding results.
Before you begin printing, we will show you how to create interesting surfaces and backgrounds onto which you can print. This may include experimenting with processes such as fabric dying, stenciling, wax resist or shibori.
We will guide you through the process of printing with your exposed screen and show you how to create good quality prints and how to generate effective designs. We show you how to create repeat patterns and guide you through the process of creating a printed length. With a bit of practice time we will help you to create a range of printed fabrics that you can use for fashion, furnishing and fine art outcomes. We also show you how to embellish and develop screen-printing to combine with applique and stitch (optional).
This course is suitable for those new to printing or those with some prior experience.
Sessions are run at a friendly and welcoming village hall. All materials are provided and we follow government guidance on social distancing and the use of face masks in public settings (subject to change at the time of course commencing). All materials are provided, although you have the option of also bringing your own chosen fabrics to work on.
Thread and Press were established with the mission to bring creative opportunities to all, including those in more rural environments. We gladly welcome learners of ALL abilities and circumstances. Older children aged 13 are welcome if accompanied by an adult (both would need to book onto the course).
