This regular monthly full day upholstery workshop is suitable for both beginners or for anyone who has done some upholstery before. If you have a chair reupholstery project in mind and want to work on it with guidance and support then this workshop is for you.
Each Saturday workshop date is a separate event and you can book your place on as many or as few as you want. If you are new to upholstery then we can get you started but you may need to book a few sessions to make progress and to complete your project. These Saturday workshops run throughout the year apart from the school summer holidays, December and January. Please check our calendar on our website for forthcoming dates.
We cover both traditional as well as modern upholstery techniques and materials and we will provide you with all the support to complete your chosen project. We would suggest that you start with a simple piece of furniture if you are new to upholstery and gain confidence with handling tools, materials and applying techniques before moving on to more complicated projects. Please do ask us to take a look at your chosen project before starting the course either with a photo or in person at the workshop and we will be happy to advise.
Jillian Humphrey is an AMUSF qualified upholsterer with 8 years of commercial experience and she specialises in traditional upholstery techniques. Lucy Mead started on a YTS scheme when she was just 16 working for a commercial upholsterer in Weston and has over 30 years' upholstery experience, and specialises in modern techniques. We keep our class sizes small so that each student will get plenty of support and contact time from your tutor. Each student is encouraged to work at your own pace and level of ability. Our ratio of tutor to student contact time in the Upholstery club will usually be no more than 1:4 and may sometimes be as little as 1:3 depending on numbers so you will get plenty of time with your tutors.
We also run regular weekly half day/evening courses aimed at beginners or improvers. For full details of all of these workshops please see our other listings and visit our website.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
All tools will be provided for use during the classes and if you decide to purchase your own we can offer you a selection at a discounted rate from our suppliers. If you want to use your own tools then please make sure that you keep them safe and separate from ours!
We also provide all the materials you will need and would ask you not to bring your own materials into the workshop. You keep a record of what you have used and we will invoice you for the cost when you have completed your project. All materials and fabrics are offered with a student discount.
Please bring a packed lunch with you or alternatively there is Hansford's Deli 2 mins walk away on Tweentown with scrumptious sandwiches and cakes or the High Street with a variety of shops is only a 10 min stroll!
Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided at a 15 minute break time in the morning and afternoon. Water is available all day.
