About the Course

There are several types of double cloth and in this week long class we will look at sampling a double cloth utilising warp and weft interchanges using various sizes of blocks on a 16"/40cm width 8 shaft loom.

True double cloths consists of two separate layers of cloth, each being constructed from its own warp and weft. Layers of double cloth can be joined when the warps and or wefts are interchanged. The design possibilities are endless when these interchanges are combined with colour mixing in the warp and the weft. This will also be explored during this class.

Each loom will be prepped with one 1.00m warp already in place with a neutral yarn. Students will then spend time designing/preparing their second warp on a secondary beam and take time to consider the blocks they wish to incorporate into their cloth.

This class would be suitable for students who have had some experience of weaving in the past and wish to expand their portfolio of techniques.

Please note this class is not about having a completed piece of cloth but rather about understanding the process of double cloth, how to set up a double cloth structure and producing a sample of work.

Maximum number of students 4.
