Round-Based Basketry Workshop (2 day) with Hopewood Baskets
Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July On this creative 2 day course you will make a round-based basket, with scope to learn how to add artistic features such as using the distinctive rope-coil weave, or work on skills you wish to develop. Using tried and tested willow basketry techniques, you will work in a small group of 6 people, guided by two tutors, Sarah and Marcus. The course is aimed at beginners. The images show the styles of baskets that we can teach you over the two days. Using our years of teaching experience, we will guide you step by step through the different processes, starting by grading the willow into different thicknesses, before moving onto the weaving techniques and ending with a basket made with your own hands! Please arrive at 9.30am to settle in before tuition at 10am Materials are included in the cost of workshop EXPERIENCE AND ACCESSIBILITY: This course is aimed at beginners. Willow weaving can be hard on the hands, so is usually unsuitable for those who suffer from arthritis or other conditions that affect the hands, but do get in touch if you would like to discuss this further. Please note: images used to advertise the course are for illustrative purposes. The baskets shown are made by the tutors, and the willow varieties (colours) used on the course will vary depending on availability.
