Rediscovering Pencils in Art with Margaret Jarvis -'Tulips in Spring' A lovely opportunity to capture the beauty of some of our favourite tulip blooms using the increasingly popular medium of very adaptable coloured pencil.  Although considered by many as simply grey and prosaic, the coloured pencil is now re-inventing itself into a much more diverse offering than times past. On this course we will explore the considerable versatility of pencils, a medium which includes an increasingly exciting blend of colours and effects. We will spend time learning how to use watercolour, Inktense as well as the vast range of other coloured pencils. A wonderful opportunity to try this very versatile media There will be a large selection available for you to try. This is an ideal course for beginners and improvers - especially those terrified of holding a brush and preferring something more biddable and predictable!

We host over 140 different art and craft ‘Quirky Workshops’ each year here in Greystoke and have been operating since 2005. Situated in a tranquil location on the fringes of the Lake District in north west England, we have been hosting a Quirky range of workshops since 2005. We are now proud to offer over 140 Arts, Craft and Heritage Skills Workshops each year, led by an incredible and talented range of local and national tutors, all experts in their field. We have two teaching studios, the 'Squirrel Barn' and the newly renovated, spacious and airy 'Swallow Barn', the latter of which, at 60m2 was very popular in the months post Covid, allowing 2m distancing, hand washing and two staircases. We have several garden teaching spaces too. Lunch (included) can be taken outside on the Tea Lawn in warmer months and teas/coffee with Aga home-baking is served at your desk. Our days are considered real treats.
