About the Course

This is not felt making. This is making a painting using layers of merino wool and enhancing it with silk or viscose fibres. This is a workshop for people with experience in wool painting. You do not need to be an artist but you need to have some knowledge of wool painting techniques. This is a step by step workshop which is designed for you to have fun with different wools and experiment with colour and fibres. Come around and advance your skills in wool painting as well as explore the qualities of various fibres. Did not know what to expect but Raya soon made everyone feel at home and we were quickly to work on our creations. Raya is an excellent teacher, engaging and encouraging and provides an excellent choice of wool and frames for use on the course. It was fascinating to see how the pictures evolved throughout the day and lovely to take something beautiful home as a memento. Highly recommended by someone who was a complete beginner!

Having painted with watercolours for many years, I approached the workshop with more than a little apprehension. How could one paint with wool? Would it be possible to complete a landscape in five hours? My worries were unfounded. Raya is an excellent teacher with endless patience and encouragement. I learned how to build colour and texture using fine Merino wool and completed an autumn landscape which was beautifully framed ready to take home.
Many thanks, Raya, for giving me the confidence to pursue this addictive hobby.
A further workshop is on the cards.

I thought the workshop was therapeutic. I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Raya proved to be a great host providing us with tea, coffee and cakes all day. It was great to recreate a holiday picture I took of the Devon landscape where I used to go on holiday. Raya showed me how to create this picture using merino wool and other fibres. I was amazed that using Raya's techniques I could create a wool painting. I am so proud of my work and it decorates the kitchen wall in my house. Raya Brown is a professional teacher with lots of skills and experience. I would recommend this course to anyone.
I would not class myself as an artistic person but this workshop gave me new confidence to continue with my artistic side.
