Have fun turning old t-shirts and forgotten favourites into recycled works of art with the age-old skill of rag rugging.
In this workshop, which is run at the wonderful craft venue, The Village Haberdashery, you will have the chance to start either a rag rug cushion, rag rug letter or smaller project. We also run specific Rag Rug Christmas Wreath workshops so keep your eyes peeled for seasonal classes. In any of our full day classes you will learn:
- How to use the rag rug equipment
- How to work with hessian
- Materials (selecting & preparing)
- How to design for rag rug
- Both rag rugging techniques (loopy & shaggy)
You will be provided with all the materials you need during the class but as the charm of rag rugging is often in the memories attached to old clothes, you're welcome to bring along any of your own clothing you’d like to incorporate, particularly if you have clothing with sentimental value that you'd like to use.
Our rag rug teacher, Elspeth Jackson, is one of the leading rag ruggers in the country. She is one of the expert teachers at the Knitting & Stitching Show, has had a rag rug book, "Rag Rugs, Pillows & More," published on the subject and is a regular in craft magazines - you'll be in very good hands!
Our class has been capped at a lower number to allow for social distancing.
This class is suitable for all levels but do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
This class includes everything you need for your rag rug project. You'll be provided with tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the class. Also included is a free rag rug latch hook to take home with you.
