About the Course
Learn how to make a patchwork quilt in this great super hands on workshop.
This class is a great class to take after the beginners class as the sewing will be mostly straight lines and it will allow you to practice more seams and other skills learned in the beginners class. You will need to know how to handle a sewing machine for this class (thread up the machine independently) but it's very much still a class for beginners.
You will cover design, measuring, cutting, the use of various tools, and stitching your patches together accurately. We will talk about different kinds of wadding and binding techniques. We will cover patchwork and log cabin techniques as well as learning about the quilting together of all the layers with either straight lines and freemotion stitching. We won't cover paper piecing, complex shapes or quilting in patterns in this class.
There are many sociable sewing sessions booked in to give you the space and support to complete your big quilt.
Fabric, wadding and thread all included in the price, as well as a copy of my In Stitches sewing handbook.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
I have sewing machines for everyone to work on but feel free to bring your own. Just remember the power supply and pedal!
There's not really anywhere to buy lunch other than a corner shop so do bring your own. Also bring any soya milk or special tea if you like although I have lots of herbal and builders tea as well as coffee for us to drink during the day.
I work from my garden studio which has all the machines, threads and over lockers we need. I do have cats so if you are allergic you may need some antihistamine (which I also have).
Parking is now controlled so be aware of this. I can give you a 5 hour voucher but it's up to you to keep an eye on the time. I am also near buses and not far from the tube and overground.
My studio isn't easily accessible to those with mobility issues as it is down steep ish outside stairs into my garden.
You can telephone me (daytime only) on the number above or email via the contact form.
