This course is a great introduction to a number of printmaking techniques. Over the length of the course, you will learn how to make, ink and print a variety of plates.
Week 1 - 5 with Christine Felce
Will cover will cover making & printing your Collagraph plate using the etching press
You will Create unique colour layered prints using a variety of textural materials and mark making.
You will learn how to create a textural cardboard plate [Collagraph ] that you can use many times to make individual and creative prints.
The course will cover printing your plate in intaglio.Using a variety of inking methods including viscosity inking stencilling & mono printing to get the most from your plate
We will use the etching press at Brewery arts to print the plates. You will also be shown how you could hand print your plates at home
Week 6 - 10 with Beth Jenkins
will cover linocut and woodcut. You will learn a wide range of techniques, including how to make full colour prints. You will make blocks that can be used for original prints on paper, fabric and other materials. You will have the option of using traditional or easy to cut lino, or wood and you will learn how to print with and without a press. New students with no experience are very welcome, whilst returning students will be encouraged to learn new techniques and processes to continue their work.
Continuing students will be able to embark on more ambitious projects, whilst new students will be given every encouragement to develop their skills and confidence. You will gain a good working knowledge of different types of printmaking and how to recognise them.
You will be printing with and without a press and you will learn about the materials and tools needed. All basic materials are supplied. Extras such as specialist papers are available at a modest charge.
It is helpful if you can bring ideas, images that you like or photographs to work from.
You can turn any of our courses into a short break by staying in our on site accommodation. When you book a residential package you will get discounted accommodation in our stylish boutique hostel located in the centre of Cirencester in the Cotswolds right next door to New Brewery Arts. Our former 19th Century Cotswold stone brewery barrel store has been beautifully transformed into 21st century accommodation, light and well-appointed with a craftsman’s attention to detail. We offer guest accommodation for up to 43 people over two floors in 14 rooms, with a choice of single, bunk, family and double bedrooms, 12 with en-suite facilities. A ground floor disabled-friendly room is also available. The hostel provides a stylish communal dining and relaxation area, self-catering kitchen, laundry facilities and lockers for your bike. As with all our courses and workshops these are led by experienced tutors and as you will be part of a small group there is plenty of time to focus on you.
