This introductory course provides those with an interest in art and design with the opportunity to explore materials, methods and processes, and to begin to develop practical skills within an art context. It also provides students with an opportunity to test their commitment and interest in the subject. It provides an opportunity to explore and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required for progression within art and design education.
The course is structured around 2D & 3D fine art processes - printmaking, sculpture, painting, drawing and mixed media. You will be encouraged to explore and experiment with approaches, materials and ideas, document your work in a blog, use a sketchbook, respond to project briefs, develop own ideas and build a portfolio of work for application to Level 3 UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, or other advanced courses. Entry to the course is by application with portfolio.

This course will be delivered online using Microsoft Teams. You will need a computer (PC/Mac, laptop, iPad/tablet or similar) and internet connection. A smartphone or camera is essential to record images of your work. The course will be delivered through a range of taught activities, as well as talks and discussions around artists and artworks.
You will be encouraged to photograph practical development and outcomes, and to share images of work made in group discussions and crits, and to receive constructive feedback from tutors and peers. You will receive a course outline, timetable of sessions and topics by email in advance, and project briefs and resources ahead of classes, with options for 1:1 tutorial support, when appropriate.
