About the Course
Develop or improve your ceramic and sculpting skills while enjoying a luxury, full-board holiday in beautiful surroundings on the wild and inspiring Penwith peninsula. Primrose Cottage Residential Pottery Courses run for five full days and six nights. They are designed for all levels of ability, from the experienced potter to the complete beginner, and have one object in mind – to inspire your creativity by learning about and working with the wonderful medium of clay.
We use a wide range of high quality materials, including porcelain and paper clays (all included in the price of the course). The small size of the groups – between three and five people – enables the sessions to be individually tailored to personal interests and skills.
The classes are between 9.30am and 1pm and in the afternoon from 2 - 5pm. They cover all the essential skills in hand building, press-moulding, slab building and throwing, together with an introduction to glazing. We aim to fill the large, gas-fired kiln towards the end of the course, so you can take completed work home with you. Otherwise your glazed and fired pieces will be delivered to you the following week.
The course is taught by ceramic artist Caroline Winn who has been teaching pottery and making and exhibiting ceramics in Cornwall and London for over 20 years.
Primrose Cottage is a 200-year-old traditional, granite-built Cornish house. It has a lovely, completely secluded three-acre garden that is a haven for wildlife.
