What a lovely discovery - a potter and glazing expert on my doorstep! I'd already made some tiles, biscuit fired (my first) and took them along to Lorraine's glazing day workshop. I trained as a 3D designer but know nothing about glazes, so I was a total beginner. Lorraine has spent her professional life in ceramics and is an enthusiastic teacher and a technical expert- she unselfishly gave me lots of detailed information on how to progress my knowledge of ceramics, as well as passing info to a fellow potter she hasn't yet met. A very enjoyable and insightful day and, I hope, a new friend made. I'm looking forward to the next one very much.

Oh boy, does Lorraine know her stuff! Came away having created 9 pots ready for glazing & firing, processes due to time restraints are completed by Lorraine, by time of collection.
Never having thrown a pot & through a hands on approach, Lorraine patiently navigates you through each stage. She generously imparts her knowledge & experience, & her passion for pottery is infectious. Add to that tea, coffee & a mouthwatering selection of cake, courtesy of Lorraine's mom - guaranteed an 'epic' day that'll far surpass your expectations. Thank you all.

As a practising ceramic artist I came for professional development and was blown away by Lorraine’s knowledge and skill in wheel thrown pottery. She has an incredible way of teaching in a very simple way to all abilities. Even the complete beginners on the course created amazing pots. She was very patient and I’m so looking forward to seeing my pots which she’s going to glaze. A brilliant experience and I will definitely be back to learn more.
Homemade cakes were a winner too!
Absolute 5 star ⭐️ rating!

Fantastic day with Lorraine. Her passion, teaching techniques and knowledge of the history of pottery was great and interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. We would recommend this course and will no doubt return to practice our newly learned skills. The plum and ginger cake was also very tasty, thank you to Lorraine's Mom.
Thank you Lorraine.

This day was totally brilliant! I had no experience of ceramics and pottery before going however, I felt like a champion by the time I left. Lorraine's teaching is outstanding. As part of a small group, she encouraged us all, helped change wonky pots into masterpieces and by the end of the day, I had 6 pots - 4 that I had thrown on a pottery wheel and 2 that had been created via molds, and all of them I would be proud to put on my dining room table. I would recommend this day without reservation. I felt so totally relaxed by the end - it was like a creative therapy - an amazing mental, emotional and creative boost!

Went on this course yday. It was fantastic. Lorraine is an awesome tutor and utterly lovely. It was a real pleasure be in her company and hear about her vast experience. I was really impressed with her studio which was just great. There were 6 of us and there was plenty of space to work and chat. We got throwing straightaway, each of us had our own wheel and Lorraine was always on hand to help us all. The morning was spent throwing and the afternoon we turned pots and had the opportunity to do some hand building which I really enjoyed. I made 9 things overall, all quite different and I loved the course. It was relaxing, interesting, creative and excellent value. I will definitely go again. I am now full of ideas of things I want to make. Ps. The cakes, tea were yummy. And the garden is lovely too. Thank you Lorraine.

It was a lovely laid back environment drinks and cakes / biscuits on tap and Lorraine's knowledge and excellent teaching style were second to none. I had a really pleasant and inspiring day with Lorraine glazing pots I'd brought with me. I learnt lots about the foibles of the various glazes and how they react to different conditions, oxides etc. and firing schedules. Lorraine is an excellent teacher and guide, and we had lots of interesting discussion about ceramics - it was a pleasure talking pottery with someone with lots of practical experience and tips who is very open and happy to share her knowledge.

One of the best courses I've ever attended. I spent the first of the two days in a group of five throwing pots and trying out the various clay techniques, which Lorraine expertly taught and had the patience of a saint with us all!
I was keen on glazing my pots the second day and Lorraine made sure there was a date that suited me to do this, despite there not being a full number of students that day. This was the most relaxing day I've had in a very long time and I highly recommend it.
My resulting pots are all different, unique and very special. So much so that I can't give any away as I'd intended!
Will definitely be back again.

Superb day at Woodsetton, really enjoyed the course. Lorraine taught the class really well and gave you the freedom to experiment with your own designs and styles, as well as helping out when things went a little wobbly on the wheel. I highly recommend this day at Woodsetton, and it's a perfect way to try out ceramics.

What a fantastic day with Lorraine.
A very warm and friendly atmosphere fully conducive to learning the wonderful techniques of pot throwing and hand building. There were only six of us so every one got plenty of 1-2-1 time to fine tune our work!
The pottery was teamed with some demonstrations and historical background info too which really brought it all together beautifully.
There is plenty of time to make several pieces and even four pieces on the wheel too. Loads of refreshments and yummy home made cake too. I've done a few craft courses and this one is definitely the best yet by a country mile (and the others were brilliant)!
The value for money is exceptional and we'll definitely be coming back to try out more of Woodsetton Art Pottery courses.

Attended a one day Workshop today with Lorraine who was a thorough and knowledgable teacher. I absolutely loved every minute and learnt so much in such a short space of time. We were greeted in the morning with hot drinks and then straight on to learning some of the techniques, then straight into getting hands on! Lorraine answered our questions and found time for everyone on the course. Throwing on the wheel was great fun and Lorraine made it look easy which was inspiring. Mistakes were easily rectified and there was no pressure to rush. A brilliant experience and I would love to take another course with her. Thank you very much, see you soon!

Had a most enjoyable day. Lorraine was a very patient and efficient tutor. Our group of four were all pottery virgins but we all managed to produce pots of which we were very proud. We cannot wait to see the final results when fired and glazed. I will definitely be attending again in the near future. I would highly recommend Lorraine's course on throwing on the wheel to anyone with an interest in finding out what it is all about.

I really enjoyed my day. I last experimented with clay when I was at primary school over thirty years ago so was a bit nervous but I had no need to be. Lorraine was a great teacher and explained things step by step very clearly. She is also clearly a skilful potter and was able to draw on her years of experience to help me turn even my bumpiest of pots into something beautiful! She really put me at ease. It's fair to say I was hooked by the end of day and am already wondering when I can go back again and do some more. Thank you!
Camilla Stewart - - #3683
What can I say ... after a one-day course, I was hooked! Lorraine helped me on a journey; not only of therapy and self-discovery, but a path to create amazing pottery. I attended many studio days, and each time Lorraine showed me everything I needed to know. Her teaching style is relaxed; she has in-depth knowledge, and you get unbeatable value for money - plus some! Oh, and her mom's cakes are simply delicious. Without a doubt, I can totally recommend Woodsetton Art Pottery. But don't take my word for it ... you best experience it yourself. So, if you're thinking, "Maybe I should," please do! You'll be glad you did.

Received a warm welcome from Lorraine into her spacious workshop. She clearly and patiently introduced me and two other students to different types of clay and then proceeded to show us how to hand craft pieces of our own design. Lorraine has a relaxed style which dissipates any anxiety about learning something new. Her teaching skills and knowledge first guided me into making a pottery bowl, then she showed us all how to use the potter's wheel and create lovely bowls and pots. When the time came for a break for lunch, Lorraine was very hospitable offering tea and coffee and her mum's delicious cupcakes. Her shop displays a nice variety of pieces for sale and Lorraine is happy to explain the process behind making them. I really enjoyed the day and I'm sure I'll be going back. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished pots and would definitely recommend this course.

Attended the day with very little experience of working with clay. Had a wonderful time and managed to complete several pots during the time. Lorraines teaching style is practical, relaxed and informative. She manages to get the balance just right between giving you possibilities of what you could do and having a go and seeing what happens. I will certainly be going again and can highly reccommend the day to anyone interested in giving ceramics a try.
