We are lucky enough to be able to welcome you to our indoor/outdoor covered barn area which makes a great studio during this challenging period. The pottery wheels are spaced in accordance with the government guidelines so that different households can come and be comfortable whilst enjoying their pottery experience.
This course is designed for those who would just like to try their hand at throwing or have had some previous experience here (perhaps having attended the 2 hour taster session) and would like a little more time to hone in on their skills.
It is also designed with small groups in mind, with the emphasis on as much 1 to 1 tuition as possible and achieving successful and satisfying results. Interestingly, during this 3 hour course our novice, student potters produce some stunning results (see gallery).
Individuals are very welcome to book for themselves or friends in advance . Up to 6 people can be accommodated at one time
These sessions make great birthday treats, anniversary surprises, Christmas presents or just a great experience. Sessions can be booked A.M here or P.M via the other course with the same name.
Please note I am not a 'hobby' potter but a professional.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
(Under normal circumstances)
Included in the course price is tea, coffee on arrival, the clay, firing and glazing of your best pieces of work.
Also included is a great deal of learning and experienced gained during your time (3 hours) here as the classes are deliberately kept small. Our potters find that 3 hours gives them the opportunity to really make some headway in their learning of the pottery skills.
3 hours (2:00pm to 5:00pm)

Lovely experience , relaxing ,informative and fun. Will certainly come back for other courses, many thanks , Jacqueline
Response from Potterydayz:Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review Jacqueline. It was a pleasure to have you along for some pot throwing and I look forward to seeing you at another course soon.
I booked for a 3 hour introduction to potting on the pottery wheel session. Advance communication was timely and instructions clear and helpful. Richard was really friendly and available to give lots of support and encouragement after an initial demonstration. There were only 2 of us in the studio and the atmosphere was relaxed and informal. I had a really enjoyable morning, felt I learned a lot and improved quickly, I will definitely be returning for another session.
Response from Potterydayz:thankyou for the review Clare, delighted you enjoyed the day and I look forward to seeing you again soon
What a lovely way to spend an afternoon . The session was friendly, informative and above all, fun. I don’t think I will be competing in The Pottery Throwdown any time soon, but it was a great day out. I would definitely recommend and will be back again.
Response from Potterydayz:Glad you enjoyed the afternoon Lyn, see you again soon. Best wishes Richard
We decided to take a pottery class as a last minute thought… Came across Richards Facebook page and thought we would give it a try. From the first point of contact to leaving after our session I have to say it was nothing other than truly superb. Richard is amazing and incredibly patient. We only opted for the half day session which in reality, if we had time, I would definitely go for the full day.
We highly recommend Richard and will definitely be back. Thanks again Richard, you really made our day.
Response from Potterydayz:Lovely to meet you both, delighted you enjoyed the morning. than you very much for the generous review. See you again I hope.
I had a brilliant time with Richard.
Richard is absolutely lovely, a very friendly and inspiring teacher. I learnt lots of great techniques and thoroughly enjoyed throwing whilst discussing pottery with Richard.
I'll be back for raku lessons.
Response from Potterydayz:Well that's simply Marvelous. Many thanks Ben, a pleasure to spend time potting with you. Look forward to seeing you for some Raku soon.
Myself and my daughter had the most enjoyable morning attempting to make a bowl of sorts. Richard is an excellent teacher and so encouraging. Surprisingly I found it really relaxing and Richard has worked so hard to make it all covid safe, even building a new studio outside. We can't wait to go back to glaze our pots. My daughter ia already keen on another session.
Response from Potterydayz:I am delighted you felt comfortable and enjoyed your time here .I look forward to your return.
Absolutely fantastic afternoon.
As a complete novice, I expected disaster but was very proud of my little pots!
Richard was a wonderful teacher- really engaging and targeted his guidance perfectly.
I'm already trying to organise another visit!
Response from Potterydayz:Many thanks Kerry, a pleasure to help you make some pots. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
I bought this experience for my husband's 70th birthday. Initially it was for 1 person because in these strange times I was unsure how many would be allowed in the workshop. In the event Richard was able to offer me the opportunity to join in.
I can't praise him highly enough, the venue had been organised to be Covid safe and at no time did we feel uncomfortable.
Richard's demonstration and explanation was clear and easy to understand. He has the patience of a saint in dealing with our inept attempts. I think we all felt reasonably satisfied with our finished products which were not perfect but good for the novices we are.
Response from Potterydayz:Hi Cheryl
Thank you Richard for a very entertaining morning of throwing. Felt we learnt a lot and had fun at the same time. The studio is great and very covid safe with plenty of room. Looking forward to coming back to glaze our pots. See you soon.
Response from Potterydayz:Thats lovely Sue, see you soon.
What a fabulous afternoon! First day after lockdown, great to spend 3 hours quality time, in the sunshine with my teenager, under Richard’s excellent supervision. As first time potters, Richard quickly put us at our ease and his simple, but very effective instruction meant we were throwing pots in no time! Not quite Ming vases, but we each had 3 or 4 decent pots to be proud of by the end, can’t wait to go back in a few weeks and glaze them.
Small groups (we were the only 2), great tuition and excellent value for money as includes the day throwing, all instruction and raw materials, a second visit back to glaze and firing. If you want to have ago at throwing pots, can’t recommend Richard enough, going to book on his Raku course next!
Response from Potterydayz:Thank you very much Kerry for the stunning review, it was a pleasure to have you both along on the first day. I look forward to seeing you for glazing or on the Raku course. Best wishes.
