About the Course

Module 1 – The Basics of Great Portraiture – 6 week course

You will learn about basic proportion and the structure of the face through a variety of drawing exercises. You will develop pencil skills to accurately capture features and experiment with a range of drawing materials and techniques to capture likeness within a portrait. Beginners will gain the confidence and satisfaction of being able to create portraits in true likeness of their chosen subjects and improvers will benefit from honing their portraiture abilities and further developing their own style.

The full course includes three modules, each 6 weeks long. The next two modules are:

Module 2 – Developing Skills and Confidence in Oil Paint

Module 3 – Advancing Your Practice

I am a PGCE qualified teacher with 15 years experience teaching children and adults. Combining this with my 20 years experience as a professional artist, I have developed a range of portraiture courses, workshops and experience days that will help you develop your artistic skills, and facilitate great enjoyment from creating portraiture.

I run courses and workshops from my garden studio in Boston Spa, West Yorkshire. My warm and homely studio space (we have heated floors!) offers an ideal setting for learning & creating while making new friends. I will have refreshments on offer and each session will include breaks.

My class sizes will be a maximum of 4 students, affording me the time to provide considerable individual support and to deliver learning specifically suited to each student.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

All art materials required (students are also welcome to bring their own), tea, coffee, biscuits and cold refreshments.
