About the Course
This ten week poetry evening course will develop the confidence of those new to the poetry world and provide professional advice and valuable insights for those writers looking to move on to the next level.
25th January 2018 – 29th March 2018
In recent years, poetry in all its forms has enjoyed a welcome surge in popularity. It’s a fantastically creative way of expressing ideas, thoughts and emotions to an appreciative audience.
Many poets now are able to generate an income through their art form, whether that be via readings, workshops, book sales or a combination of all three.
However, in an increasingly crowded modern discipline it’s important to understand how to present your work effectively either on stage or on the page, giving your poetry the edge it needs to be published and recognised on the thriving live circuit.
On this course you will:
take part in structured classes exploring how to give a voice to your poetry, in a supportive environment
improve your writing and potential performance skills, using various techniques, exercises, discussions and inspirational activities
discover how to develop your range by experimenting with style, form and genre
enhance your ability to give and receive valuable feedback
learn about the poetry publishing world, how to approach publishers and effectively pitch ideas for collections, pamphlets etc.
gain an insight into the current live poetry circuit, its key promoters, events and opportunities.
No experience of writing or performing poetry is necessary. Complete beginners and much more experienced writers will be welcomed onto this exciting and explorative course.
What will I gain?
By the end of the course, you’ll have developed a small portfolio of poems for possible publication, gained an insight into the modern poetry world of publishing and performance and received a one-to-one consultation with an industry professional.
