About the Course

The aim of this course (which runs over 6 Saturday afternoons) is to enable students to design and make a truly unique piece of jewellery by instructing various techniques and allowing students to pick the methods they like the most.

Several jewellery making techniques are demonstrated by Rose with students being given time to practice and experiment using copper, before going onto design a piece of jewellery. Rose can give guidance through the design process, if needed, as well as the technical aspects of a design enabling students to realise their ideas in silver. If a student has previous experience in making jewellery then those people are welcome to use the workshop equipment and Rose can give guidance where required.

Since a student can make whatever they wish (provided the techniques shown enable this) the price of silver is not included in the cost of the course.

Guidance Costs for silver:
20mm diameter pendant necklace with chain would cost around £10
4mm thick silver bangle would cost around £30
10mm diameter stud earrings would cost around £5

Sessions 1 to 4 - Techniques will be demonstrated & practised using copper. By the end of session 4 you should have developed an idea of what you want to make.
Session 5 - You will make a mock up of your final piece in copper. At the end of this day you will have decided on your final design and know how much silver needs to be ordered which Rose will do on your behalf.
Session 6 - You will make the final design in silver.
