About the Course
From its invention, photography has been used to make visible events and objects that are usually invisible to the human eye, either those that are too slow or too fast to perceive, or subjects that appear differently in ultraviolet or infrared light. This unique workshop will examine various techniques for visualising the invisible world: UV reflected and fluorescence photography can reveal hidden patterns in flowers which only insect eyes can see, IR photography can be used for pictorial effect as well as identifying plant disease, whilst , time-lapse and high speed photography can be used to show plant growth, or high speed spore dispersal for example. UV reflected and IR photography require the use of specially modified cameras and specialist filters, and the requirements for this will be discussed and demonstrated fully during the workshop. If participants wish to get a camera modified before the course they are welcome to contact the tutor before the start of the course. He has a web site devoted to the subject, which includes images and various “starter guides”, and his new book: Digital Ultraviolet and Infrared Photography (Focal Press) was published in November 2017.
Adrian Davies is a freelance nature photographer, lecturer, author and highly experienced course leader. He has written numerous articles and books, including Digital Close-up and Macro Photography, (Focal Press), Digital Plant Photography (Bloomsbury Press) (RHS magazine:: "...an informative study that would make an excellent gift for plant photographers of all levels ...") and Digital Ultraviolet and Infrared Photography (Focal Press, 2017)
