A day long introduction to the heritage craft of paper marbling. Create your own array of beautiful marbled papers and marble a small terracotta pot.
Your day will start with a short presentation on the history of the ancient art of marbling and a description of the world’s three great marbling traditions. You will learn the basics of European paper marbling which you may have seen in the end papers of fine old books.
With Jude’s guidance you will begin by producing simple designs and as your confidence grows throughout the day you’ll be introduced to more complex traditional designs. By the end of the day you will have many sheets of beautiful A4 paper to take home along with your own marbled small terracotta pot. After a full day of learning and practice you will have acquired enough knowledge to be able to continue experimenting at home using basic equipment.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Materials are provided however you are welcome to bring along your own paper if you have something particular that you’d like to use.
Please wear old clothes and an apron as marbling can be very messy.
Your papers may not be completely dry by the end of the day. If this is the case we will keep them safe at Stiwdio 3 for you to collect when you can. The pot should be dry enough to take away on the day.
