Clare Rose (Fine Art BA, MA) is a passionate painter and teaching professional, who is highly trained and experienced in a wide variety of artistic mediums. A studio tutor for Aberystwyth University School of Art for seven years, Clare is a landscape and portrait artist with work in the Art UK Organisation. With a flair for instilling excitement, Clare’s teaching provides a supportive and creatively stimulating environment, where students can excel and attain their full potential while having fun. Suitable for beginners and experienced painters, Clare will happily adapt this taster course to your individual needs. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of painting and drawing and learn how to use sketches and photographs to create a landscape painting in the studio. Initially, we will spend time drawing in the landscape, making quick sketches and compositions that generate a sense of place and feed off the energy of this beautiful area. Back at the house, we will create an expressive acrylic painting from your memories, sketches and photographs. The emphasis is on fun and exploration - mistakes are essential!
Susan Richardson is a poet, performer, educator and editor, whose fourth poetry collection, Words the Turtle Taught Me, will be published in 2018 by Cinnamon Press. She is currently poet-in-residence with both the Marine Conservation Society and the global animal welfare initiative, World Animal Day. Susan has performed her work at festivals throughout the UK, on BBC 2, Radio 4 and at Universities both nationally and internationally. She co-edits Zoomorphic digital literary magazine. In this workshop you'll be encouraged to walk, explore and respond, through the writing of poetry, to the inspiring local coastal landscape as well as to any wildlife you encounter. You'll also spend time indoors writing in response to prompts that Susan will provide and receiving helpful feedback.
Kittie Belltree’s poems have been published in a range of print and online journals including The North, The New Welsh Review, Under the Radar, Brittle Star, Obsessed with Pipework and Poetry Wales. A selection of her poems was shortlisted for the Venture Award 2016, while individual poems have been highly commended in several competitions; including The Penfro Book Festival Competitions 2015, 2016; The Camden and Lumen Competition 2016 and The Welsh International Poetry Competition 2017. In 2016, she was awarded a Literature Wales Writers Bursary to develop her first full collection. She also writes prose under a pen name and has just completed her first novel; a comedy romance set in Pembrokeshire. Her short fiction has also been highly commended and was anthologised in the collection, Cut on the Bias, (Honno, 2010.) Kittie has tutored in numerous community settings, from groups of home-educated teenagers to people with dementia. She works as a Specialist Study Skills Tutor at Aberystwyth University, where she also teaches on the undergraduate creative writing programme and is completing a PhD on poetry. In this workshop, we will take inspiration from our estuary coastline. Working both indoors and outside, using prompts and writing exercises, we will explore the coast as an ever-changing backdrop of beginnings and departures. A place of fluidity, contrast and motion where memories are formed and landscapes are shaped by the unfathomable pull of the sea.
