You will develop a series of monotypes from an existing painting, drawing or photograph that inform and allow you to develop a new painting composition. Begin by making monochromatic monotypes to practice selecting information and constructing a composition through tone. Develop ideas further with multi-layered monoptypes, introducing colour and drawing techniques to explore mark-making, texture and gesture. Explore means of translating these further into a series of painterly sketches, to develop a language of marks and gesture in a final painting. Teaching is both in groups and on an individual, one-to-one basis, with technical and critical advice depending on your needs. The tutor will give demonstrations, presentations and lead group discussions around technical and creative subjects. All students record and assess progress via a Learning Statement.
