A day long introductory course in Botanical Illustration with Marion Wilson SBA from Cockermouth. As a SBA distance learning artist Marion has exhibited several of her pieces in the Westminster Hall SBA Spring show over recent years. Previous experience of painting with watercolours is recommended.

You will learn all about painting botanical subjects. Choosing paper, how to mix paints and use various brushes, sketching out in pencil first , where to start, painting white spaces, highlighting, depth, depicting round shapes, flowers versus leaves or berries.

Marion will bring in many subjects and by the end of the day you should be well equipped to progress further in Botanical art.

Marion has been painting flowers and plants in watercolour since her retirement in 1999, and has exhibited in London, France, Switzerland and Frankfurt with the Society of Botanical Artists, having been accepted as a member in 2011 after 2 years of study. We recently learnt she has been teaching in Switzerland and so were delighted when she agreed to take some day courses here.

What's included in the price?

Welcome drinks : fresh coffee & home made biscuits, a lovely 2 course Aga lunch served in our farmhouse kitchen or outside in the Greystoke Cycle Cafe Tea Garden as soon as it's warm enough. To finish off the day, a freshly made Cream Tea (including Aga-baked scones, cream and jam).

Our days are considered real treats - many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.

We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 from our friendly family run Cycle Cafe Tea Garden on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.
