Class format and activities
Your tutor will demonstrate how to make paint and you will then work in small groups to make a range of colours. You will explore the nature of the pigments used and the oil medium you make. You will then use your hand-made paint to paint from the still life using a range of techniques
There will be an emphasis in sharing knowledge and experience. The tutor will advise throughout and facilitate discussion.
Constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor will help you succeed during the class.
The course is suitable for both beginners and experienced painters who may want to increase their knowledge of oil paint and how it is made.
What you need to know before you enrol
The D11 Studio is on the 1st floor with no lift access.
As we are using pigments and solvents, health & safety guidelines need to be considered. We will be using face masks and protective gloves when making paint.
What you will need for your class
Paint making equipment is provided, along with the initial pigments, oil medium and paper and primer for painting on.
(If more is needed then students can purchase pigments through the college and your tutor will advise).
A range of brushes and palette knife are available for to use - however, if you have your own, you may like to bring them with you.
You may like to bring a notebook as there will be lots of information given out on the day. Please wear old clothes or an apron - making paint is a very messy business!
