About the Course

This is a 4 week course in Pottery throwing where you will come away with your very own, home made tea pot! Taught by Harriet Kate Ceramics, a qualified ceramicist from her garden studio in the heart of Robin Hood country! 5 minutes from Clumber park, Thoresby Hall,Rufford Country Park and Sherwood forest, there is much to do after your class if you wish to make a day of it!
The course runs over 4 sessions held on consecutive Saturdays over the course of 4 weeks, with each session lasting around 2 hours.

This course is perfect for beginners as the first session is based around getting a feel for the clay and using the pottery wheel, however if you are a little more experienced this course is perfect for you too!

The course is taught on a one to one basis to provide you with the best tuition to create your masterpiece!

The 4 sessions consist of-
Week 1- "getting to know the wheel"
Here you will be taught the basics of throwing a pot. You will create a pot with a lid- 2 basic techniques that you will use to create your tea pot in coming weeks.

Week 2- "the busy week!"
One to one tuition to create each component of the tea pot. You will throw the main body, the spout and the lid ready for week 3. This session may be challenging, but with guidance you will create each part!

Week 3- "trimming"
Here you will "trim" or "turn" your tea pot. This consists of using specific tools to neaten up the underside of the components of your pot. You will also "pull" the handle. You will then attach your pieces to create one tea pot! This is when you will go home with photos of your tea pot to show every body! But it's not ready yet, your pot comes alive in week 4! Harriet will fire your tea pot, in her on site kiln, ready for week 4.

Week 4- "make it pretty!"
This is where you get to glaze your tea pot. Whether you choose to glaze your piece with pretty paintings, be abstract or use the traditional technique of dipping is entirely up to you! Harriet will guide you through each stage and process!

This class is taught one to one to ensure each stage is completed each week/session. Please ensure you are able to commit to one session every Saturday for 4 weeks.
