About the Course
One day mosaic course with experienced artist tutor Joy Sturgess, for adults of all levels of experience including beginners. Max number of students: 6
Come and learn the direct method of making a mosaic suitable for indoors or outdoors by laying tiles directly onto a durable surface. This can be a mixed media mosaic if you wish- and you can bring your own material to include in your work. Joy has a good range of unglazed ceramic and glass tesserae.
On one of Joy's courses you will learn:
•How to transform a design idea into a mosaic
•How to use mosaic making tools
•How to cut and lay mosaic tiles
•How to apply basic techniques of andamento (movement) to your work.
•How to grout and clean your mosaic.
This course is suitable for mosaic novices or those wishing to extend their practice. You will complete a small mosaic (20cm x 20cm maximum) to take home.
It does not matter if you do not consider yourself 'arty', Joy can help you with any design and drawing required.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

I chose this course because Joy seemed passionate about mosaic and there weren't any other courses in the right area. The course was well managed and the task- to complete a mosaic to take home- was achievable. I made a lily mosaic and Joy helped me translate the picture I brought with me into a design. Joy is friendly and helpful and I would take a further course with her to increase my skills and experience in mosaic.

This course was chosen for me by my daughter and was a great gift- I discovered that I have some artistic talent. I was very pleased with the mosaic I made which was an initial A in orange with a green background. I learnt how to use mosaic tools and all about the materials - Joy has a good range of colours and the studio is well set out. This was a most interesting and relaxing day - the time went too quickly!

I chose this course because Scarborough is a nice place for a short break and because Joy offered an interesting course suitable for beginners. I learnt so much and made a great sign for my brother's toilet door. Joy created a relaxed and supportive environment and I had a really good day - I liked everything about this day and now want to go on and undertake a longer course over a couple of days. I would definitely recommend this course to other people.

I made a door sign for my bathroom with a star fish design. I loved the relaxed easy going atmosphere and how informative Joy was - the course was a Christmas present from my sister and a great gift - it allowed me to discover another way of crafting and introduced me to mosaic.
