Description

Learning the Basics of Oil Painting

This course is designed to introduce students to nontoxic oil painting. Nontoxic oil paints contain the same pigments and binders (linseed oil) as traditional oils but have the added benefit of being able to be temporarily mixed with water, which eliminates the need for harmful solvents. Advice will be given and demonstrated about other nontoxic oils, gels and mediums that can be used to enhance performance.

In this class you will:

*Learn specifics about your materials, including different painting surfaces and brushes and how to use them for the best effect.

*Explore traditional methods of painting, including grisaille, glazing, scumbling, and alla prima.

*Learn the basics of colour mixing and colour harmony.

*Create engaging still life and portrait paintings from direct observation and visual aids.

Class size is limited to 6 students to ensure personalised attention.
