About the Course
You have the choice of making a unique nuno felted scarf, a warm woolly scarf or you may like to try your hand at making a picture or wall-hanging for your home/office or give as a gift.
This day is ideal for beginners or the more advanced felter but I also teach a variety of techniques on the same day as I keep to small groups.
Scarf- During this fabulous felting day, we will make a scarf using soft merino wool and a silk scarf, incorporating a beautiful 100% silk scarf and silky fibres to give it a shimmer effect if desired.
By manipulating a thin layer of wool through a fine woven material, we will make a scarf with characteristics which are quite different from a traditional felt and is much thicker. There are many possibilities for transparency, and exciting texture with drape and flexibility in the material, this lends itself well to beautiful movement required in a scarf.
Nuno scarf making requires a preferably a 100% fine silk. I have a variety of fine scarves available to purchase on the day from £7 -£12 but please feel free to bring your own FINE scarf -silk or even a polyester (very fine) will work too.
The warm woolly scarf does not require a base layer.
Alternative - Pictures /cushion panels
You will have the opportunity to create either a wet felted landscape picture or a needle felted landscape picture. You will learn how to mix different colours of wool like an artist mixes paints. You will also learn how to incorporate scrummy bits and bobs of alpaca, wensleydale curly tops and silky shimmers to enhance your picture.
You will need to bring a picture or a brief idea along for inspiration, or I have images, books or examples that you may like to work from.
There are some lovely local B & Bs available on request.

Today I completed my third felting course with Barbara. I just about had time to make 2 shoulder bags! I really enjoyed the day and, although I've done a felting course before, it was good to have Barbara's guidance and advice on techniques. I can highly recommend Feltworld courses - there's always a relaxed and friendly atmosphere - and you get to make something original to take home!

You bags look wonderful, but you can still put pockets in and on the front without any sewing :-).
I really enjoyed our day to and the Sunday was also successful as Janis and Joan made a scarf and a bag.

My husband and I both had a fabulous day with Barbara, making Nuno felt scarves....! My husband hadn't planned to come along - long story! - but was pleased he did. Barbara is a superb tutor - she inspires with lots of samples and ideas, and explains the process very clearly; she's very professional and very welcoming. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this course/workshop - if you're on your own, with a friend of in a group, I'm sure you'd have fun...and you get to leave with a stunning Nuno felt scarf, too!

I look forward to teaching you and encouraging new techniques in to your work.
Thank you so much Barbara for such an excellent course. It was extremely good of you to run the course just for me when the others dropped out - I really appreciated that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day - I started as a complete novice, feel I learned tons and actually left with a superb scarf that I am very proud of and shall definitely use! Following your excellent introduction to felting I have already ordered myself some supplies and am determined to experiment more with this fascinating craft. You not only explained how to felt but also gave me an insight into why.... Thank you very much again!

A really great course today. My first time at wet felting and I came home with a really nice unique nuno felted silk scarf - far better than I ever expected. The class was small and everyone received individual attention. I learnt a new skill from an expert. Barbara is very patient and makes everyone feel very relaxed. I would highly recommend this and any other course that Barbara runs, others on the day wet felted small hand bags which also looked fun
Jayne Ashton - - #14198

Excellent day today, making a wet felted shoulder bag. I’m really pleased with the finished product. Barbara is a superb teacher, and has brilliant ideas. Classes are small, so that you get expert one-to-one tuition. This is the second class I have attended, I made a wet felted picture on the first occasion, again an enjoyable experience.

Many thanks Barbara for an excellent day. Lots of helpful tips and a wonderful array of wools and silks to choose from. Students are very much encouraged to decide upon their own projects, so at any workshop everyone could be working on something different - an excellent way to see what the range of possibilities are and to get inspired!

I did a day course with Barbara learning how to wet felt. I made a felt landscape picture. I had never done anything like this before but Barbara was lovely and welcoming and convinced me that I would leave at the end of the day with something to be proud of. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and loved the way the felt changed with each process , and yes, I am extremely proud of my very own work of art!

I have been on two of Barbara Meeks courses.....what an inspirational teacher/instructor. I have learned so much from Barbara and she has given me the confidence to work with and experiment with my own dogs Husky Wool using Wet Felting and Needle Felting techniques. I designed (with Barbaras help) a Nuno Scarf using my Husky Wool from each of my 12 Dogs.....just love it!!!!! I could not have achieved this without Barbaras clear teaching and instruction......EXCELLENT!!!!!!
Will certainly be attending more!!

I have never done anything like this before and was a little hesitant . I needn't have worried. The very patient Barbara ensured we were all fully trained at each stage and was happy to re-explain points when necessary. We had a good laugh whilst watching our scarfs appear before our very eyes. Barbara even provided a delicious lunch . I came away delighted with my creation and have given it as a present to another friend. She has decided to go on a course with Barbara as well . What a great day. Thank you Barbara
Viv - - #8987

I plan to attend another workshop as I would like to do more nuno felting with silks and other fabrics.

I made a stunning piece of art work on this Nuno felting day with Barbara. It is being measured up to be framed to hang in my living room as it goes perfectly with everything.
I had an absolutely fabulous experience learning something new, the nuno process is just wow, how amazing it is to see the silk and wool react in such a way - beautiful. I'm afraid Barbara that I will be back for more. Fabulous teacher, so calm and explained everything in such detail in stages, and had a good sense of humour too.
Felicity Jenson - - #2743
Barbara combined giving you the freedom to use your own ideas, whilst guiding with confidence in the finished scarf as you really do not know how it is going to look by the end! As it happened I am delighted and thrilled with my piece. Barbara also provided a great introduction to various techniques and instilled a desire to carry on and learn more more more of this exciting skill. She ensures that the classes are relaxed, informative with lots of examples to inspire the imagination. I will definitly be back for another course and bring my friend and daughter next time...already purchased some birthday gift vouchers :-) Fiona x

J Fletcher - - #2298
Lovely day, full explanations and help given by Barbara, whose knowledge and passion for textiles was evident. Would recommend this course
Sue Trischitta - - #2296
I had a one to one lesson with Barbara so I had her full attention. I have limited use of one hand, but I am capable and with a little help with laying out the fibres from Barbara for an hour in the morning, I completed a beautiful delicate floral unique scarf or I may use it as a wall- hanging. Barbara is very patient, explains the processes in simple stages and a great teacher. She has many years experience and her rug which she made in Turkey is beautiful. Highly recommended.
Laura Benton - - #2182
My husband bought a place on this course feltmaking course as a Christmas present. We went to Stafford and made a weekend of it, hubby went to see his friend and I on my fabulous day with 3 other ladies. I loved it and I am hooked on feltmaking.
I was and still am absolutely amazed at how so very adaptable the fibres are maniputated just by using soap and water and a bit of rubbing that such beautiful pieces of art can be produced. I love my scarf - I could never buy one like it and I am so looking forward to my birthday gift voucher next month, the hints surely must have sunk in.
Jo Hill - - #2152
My friend and I have just been one a nuno felting scarf day with Feltworld and had a lovely relaxed day with Barbara, who is so experienced and answered our many questions as virgin felters lol. She put us at ease and explained with many stages and demonstrations which made it very easy to follow. Her work is so beautiful and textural.
We are delighted with our new creations and excited to wear them. I will also use mine as a hall table runner in the summer... I don't care I will show off lol.five
We have bought gift vouchers to attend another course for our birthday in July/August.
Belinda Burt - - #2150
I really enjoyed my day at Barbara's felt scarf making course. It was my first time at wet feltmaking and it was brilliant. Barbara is a very experienced feltmaker/teacher, she talked us through each stage, step by step, I think that we were all amazed at how the felt gripped through the silk scarf and crinkled it up to create a beautiful texture. I love my scarf and wear it a lot, many people have commented on it too :-).
