Felting is an ancient art form where layers of wool fibres are worked together using warm water, soap and a little bit of elbow grease.
Our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and this is the ideal introduction to nuno felting, creating your very own bespoke nuno felted scarf and corsage. Suitable for either beginners, or those who want to improve their skills.
The session will start with an explanation about the different types of fleece and fibre and the origins of the ancient art of felt making. As the wool fibres shrink they twist together to create a unique natural fabric. Nuno felting expands on the basic process by fusing the wool fibres onto silk creating a beautiful cobwebbed, ruched scarf. You will be guided through the whole process through demonstration and practice pieces. (If you have any allergies or skin sensitivity please bring your own soap on the day).
After lunch you will be shown how to design, lay out and felt your beautiful and unique scarf. A range of silks, wools and fibres will be provided for you to use. By the end of the day you will be also shown how to create a scarf pin or corsage using your sample pieces.
Please note that your scarf will still be wet at the end of the class but you will be provided with a bag and instructions about drying it. You will also take home the skills required to produce future nuno creations.
