On this one day workshop I will help you take your basic knowledge of drop spindling to the next level. Using both hand prepared and mill prepared wool fibre I will help you hone your skills and help you make the yarn you want to make for your knitting or weaving projects. Do feel free bring along your current projects and any ‘not quite right’ yarns.
Our plan for the day
: welcome and introductions
: a chance for you to explain what you would like to be helped with
: getting going with spinning – using worsted and woollen prepared fibre
Break for lunch (please bring a packed lunch)
: exploring how to tweak preparation, spinning and plying to make the yarn you want
: looking at different tools to help you
: individual and group support
: where to go next?
Fleece will be available to purchase (in cash) on the day along with drop spindles if you’d like to try a different style, along with some recommended books.
Tutor: Amy Ford
My name is Amy and I run Sheepish Woollens from my small farm in West Wales. I started spinning about ten years ago having always been fascinated by the alchemy of fleece to yarn!
My love of spinning and sheep led to me buying my first three sheep 7 years ago and now I have a flock of over thirty. I particularly love the natural diversity in colour and texture of our native sheep and mostly spin this fleece.
I love spinning using drop spindles and spinning wheels but am passionate about teaching the use of the drop spindle as it’s incredibly portable, inexpensive and practical and has a long and fascinating history.
All proceeds from our events and holidays are ploughed directly back into managing our 40 acre nature reserve. Thank you for your support and please do come to visit soon.
