About the Course
You may or may not have heard about Inktober; this drawing challenge, created by artist Jake Parker as a way to hone his drawing skills using ink, is now in its 12th year. People are encouraged to create an ink drawing every day in October or at a pace that suits them. A list of prompts are available, but you don’t have to follow them. It’s simply a great opportunity to put some time aside to draw and develop your skills and creativity.
Join artist, teacher and maker Liz Wellby at The Slipper Studio, in a relaxed and supportive environment, for our own mini Inktober.
This day of drawing will suit all levels of ability from the beginner, those who haven’t drawn for a while, to the more experienced artists; you can take as much or as little of the tuition as you feel you need. In the morning you can dip in and out of a range of processes, whilst in the afternoon you can focus on a more sustained piece.
Working with the principle that everyone can draw, we will focus on learning to look, plan your ideas and create a series of drawings. We will explore working on different types of paper and use a range of materials.
You will have the opportunity to work from observation, alongside doodling, experimenting and playing with marks, materials, images and ideas. You can choose a theme from the Inktober prompt list, choose from images and objects provided or use a theme of your choice.
Liz will host the workshop at her home studio. The venue is beautifully presented, with handcrafted workbenches and a wood burner, with views down the village.

This was a delightful day from beginning to end. Liz had a lovely warm welcome and a helpful approach, encouraging us to experiment with ink drawing, in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
We learned how to use and experiment with different processes to create unique artwork. Plenty of materials and examples were available for us to use, and to find inspiration.
The studio is a beautiful venue, and working in a small group was fantastic, a very enjoyable learning experience.
I highly recommend Liz’s workshops, and I look forward to learning something new on another one.
